JVC GZ-MG500, Panasonic SV AV100, Cannon FS100 and other similar camcorders record videos in MOD format. Neither JVC nor Panasonic has ever explained what MOD is, but it is widely recognized that an MOD file is modified MPEG-2 file with audio in a non-standard Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Some people would rename the MOD files extension into MPEG and try to play them with Windows Media Player. It does work to some MOD files. Yet you need to work a little more to convert MOD to MPEG. Experienced guys may use professional video editing tools, but for novices, Pavtube MOD Converter is considered as good choice. In this guide you will learn how to convert MOD to MPEG with Pavtube MOD Converter.
You could download Pavtube MOD Converter from here and install the program. This is a free trial version and there is no function limit so you can make full use of it.
A step-by-step guide to convert MOD to MPEG:
Step One: Import the MOD files to MOD Converter.
Keep your camcorder connected to PC and run the program. See the interface? Simply click Add button and browse to the MOD files you want to convert, just leave out the corresponding MOI files. Pavtube MOD Converter supports batch conversion and combining multiple footages together.
Step Two: Set output format and correlative settings.
Click Format bar, and choose format from the file list. Here you could find formats encoded with MPEG-1 (*.mpg), MPEG-2 (*.mpg) and MPEG-4 (*.3gp, *.3g2,*.m4v, *.mp4 etc). Then type in output path in Output bar or click the small folder icon to specify a destination folder.
Check Merge into one box and the selected files in file list will be combined and output as one file. Click Edit menu and enter Trim window to cut off unwanted clips and reduce the output MPEG to exactly what you want. For those formats (MOV, MKV, M4V) that apply AC3 or AAC codec, you can set 5.1 Channel as output audio in Settings.
Step Three: Converting MOD to MPEG.
To start conversion, simply click Convert button. A progress window will pop up and show you the converting progress. It also allows you to set auto shutdown. After conversion you can play or edit them as you wish.
