Working with Canon XC10 XF-AVC in FCP X

Having just bought the XC10 camera I'm now confused as to how to import / work with the Canon XF-AVC files in FCPX. I've downloaded the Canon XFUtility of XF-AVC but this does not seem to enable me to import or transcode the files for use in FCPX . Do I need to transcode the files using third party software?
